Solving Min-Max Problems with Applications to Games

چکیده

We refine existing general network optimization techniques, give new characterizations for the class of problems to which they can be applied, and show that they can also be used to solve various twoplayer games in almost linear time. Among these is a new variant of the network interdiction problem, where the interdictor wants to destroy high-capacity paths from the source to the destination using a vertexwise limited budget of arc removals. We also show that replacing the limit average in mean payoff games by the maximum weight results in a class of games amenable to these techniques.

Solving matrix games with hesitant fuzzy pay-offs

The objective of this paper is to develop matrix games with pay-offs of triangular hesitant fuzzy elements (THFEs). To solve such games, a new methodology has been derived based on the notion of weighted average operator and score function of THFEs. Firstly, we formulate two non-linear programming problems with THFEs. Then applying the score function of THFEs, we transform these two problems in...

Semidefinite programming for min-max problems and games

We consider two min-max problems: (1) minimizing the supremum of finitely many rational functions over a compact basic semi-algebraic set and (2) solving a 2-player zero-sum polynomial game in randomized strategies with compact basic semi-algebraic sets of pure strategies. In both problems the optimal value can be approximated by solving a hierarchy of semidefinite relaxations, in the spirit of...

RESOLUTION OF NONLINEAR OPTIMIZATION PROBLEMS SUBJECT TO BIPOLAR MAX-MIN FUZZY RELATION EQUATION CONSTRAINTS USING GENETIC ALGORITHM

This paper studies the nonlinear optimization problems subject to bipolar max-min fuzzy relation equation constraints. The feasible solution set of the problems is non-convex, in a general case. Therefore, conventional nonlinear optimization methods cannot be ideal for resolution of such problems. Hence, a Genetic Algorithm (GA) is proposed to find their optimal solution. This algorithm uses th...

Minimax analysis of stochastic problems

In practical applications of stochastic programming the involved probability distributions are never known exactly. One can try to hedge against the worst expected value resulting from a considered set of permissible distributions. This leads to a min-max formulation of the corresponding stochastic programming problem. We show that, under mild regularity conditions, such a min-max problem gener...
